Short Description

The Ingka Investments team is located in Leiden. The Venture & Growth Capital (VGC) team originates and executes early and later stage growth investments (companies) globally. Within the VGC team, the role of the senior investment manager is a crucial role in sourcing, executing deals and managing the VGC portfolio.

The senior investment manager will contribute to doing 2 to 4 buy side investments per year, typically taking a board or board observer position and having close contact with the management team of the acquired company. This senior role will have both an external (deal sourcing and executing) and internal (Ingka Investments Board, finance, tax, project management) focus. Role description

The Senior Investment Manager VGC is responsible for sourcing, executing and managing portfolio companies. Priority for the coming years will be buy side deals (70%) whilst managing (30%) a growing portfolio of companies. Overtime (as the portfolio significantly increases), the workload may shift the other way towards (50%) portfolio management and (50%) deals.

Key responsibilities:

Deal Sourcing:

• Develop sector expertise (knowledge) of Ingka’s prioritized investment areas (market analysis, competition, market tends).

• Pro-actively originate deal flow by building and maintaining internal and external networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, especially external deal sourcing channels (banks, boutiques, big four, academia) become circular,climate positive by 2030 and generate attractive financial returns. It’s also why they invest in businesses that support IKEA to

• contribute meaningfully – owning and operating more than 500 wind turbines – to the goal of all Ingka • Group operations running solely on renewable energy by 2025. • Research developments in the market and sectors to help prepare IKEA and make them ahead of the game.

Deal Execution:

• Analyze, select and prioritize investment opportunities

• Evaluation of individual investment opportunities (e.g., financial modelling, valuation, structuring, commercial due diligence)

• Co-ordinate and involve Ingka business areas when suitable (IKEA Retail, Market Support, Customer Fulfilment, Digital Unit etc.)

• Manage deal due diligence and documentation (financial, legal, tax and operational)

• Execute deal negotiations (including SPA negotiations), arrangement of (bank) or intercompany financing and final closings.

Portfolio management

• Manage 3-5investments in VGC portfolio (secure timely and correct financial/operational/risk reporting, represent Ingka Investments, build relations) ).

• Portfolio management (e.g., financial reporting, KPI setting, strategy development, performance improvement projects, buy-and-build activities)

• Support the development of VGC portfolio of early and late-stage venture capital investments (connected to the Ingka Group core business and sustainability)

• Preparation and execution of exits

• Periodic portfolio performance reviews

Requirements

• Strong academic background: Masters in a numerical discipline (Business, Finance, Econometrics, Engineering etc.).

• At least 8 years of work experience in venture capital, private equity or corporate finance. The candidate is a top performer having received excellent performance reviews

• Excellent Project Management skills

• Self-starting, ability to work independently and take responsibility, ambitious and highly driven to succeed with a high level of professional and commercial flair. A dose of personality is welcome. The social side is very important; energetic, down-to-earth and the very definition of a team player!

• Ability to ‘connect’ with entrepreneurs and managers is a must. Simplicity, entrepreneurship and humbleness.
